Job Summary
The work of a Ramp Agent includes loading and unloading cargo (mail, express, freight, and company material) on and off aircraft, transporting cargo between terminals and aircraft, ramp transfers where required, receiving and delivering freight, and completing related forms and messages. Ramp Agents also assist in loading, unloading, and racking drums, operate ground support equipment, perform routine cleaning, monitor security, and comply with WFS site security procedures.
Responsibilities
- Marshal aircraft upon arrival and departure.
- Load and unload cargo on and off aircraft.
- Safely drive and operate ground support equipment, including belt loaders, tugs, and carts.
- Sort and load cargo.
- Perform ground service functions such as connecting and removing ground power and ground start units and water service.
- Perform aircraft push back, wing walking, and related guide man functions.
- Maintain a secure work environment.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to lift and handle heavy baggage and cargo (up to 50 lbs or more).
- Valid driver’s license, maintained throughout employment.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and flight crews.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operating ground support equipment.
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with airport security regulations.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety protocols.
- Fluently read, write, and speak the English language.
- Job covered by a collective bargaining agreement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU); requires joining the TWU and paying union dues.
Preferred Skills
- Fluently read, write, and speak English.
- Experience working rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and days off.
- Strong communication skills with others.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
