Responsibilities Accurately grosses all special biopsy specimens.

Accurately embeds specimens using proper orientation.

Performs microtomy on tissue specimens at appropriate microns using various microtome models.

Peforms routine H&E stain manually or automated following established protocol.

Manual or automated coverslipping of slides, organizes slides, labels and prepares slides for pathologist to review. Ensures correct correlation to case.

Follows Laboratory safety procedures and all hospital, department and lab procedures.

QA/QC Preventive Maintenance and Safety Functions

Histology Laboratory Maintenance

Inventory Controls

Special Stains, Procedures, and Projects

Qualifications

Education:

Associates degree in Histotechnology or aBachelors degree with at least 60 semester hours of academic credit to include a combination of 12 semester hours of Biology and Chemistry (credit hours in both) with successful completion of a NAACLS acrcredited Histotechnology training program or completion of a clinical histology rotation in a NAACLS accredited Laboratory granting HR (ASCP) eligibility

Histology Certification HT(ASCP) is required.

Work Experience:

Two years of experience as a Histology technician (clinical internship as a part of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program counts as one year of clinical experience)

Must have EPIC experience
