IT Systems Administrator II - Data Protection Backup - Digital and Technology Partners - Hybrid
This is a Hybrid position.
Requires some onsite as needed to various locations at Mount Sinai Hospitals and Mount Sinai South Nassau locations.
We are seeking a Data Protection Backup Engineer
to manage and optimize our enterprise backup and recovery systems. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of our data across on-premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Veritas NetBackup and Azure backup technologies, with a strong understanding of compliance and storage optimization.
Responsibilities
Assist in the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of backup and recovery systems to ensure data protection for critical hospital operations.
Execute and troubleshoot backup jobs, including scheduling, monitoring, and validating successful completion.
Support disaster recovery processes, including testing and documentation, to ensure rapid data restoration in case of system failures.
Manage and maintain backup storage systems, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate backup solutions with on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure, including Microsoft Azure.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as tape management, backup policy updates, and capacity planning.
Document backup procedures, configurations, and recovery processes to ensure operational continuity.
Stay informed about emerging backup technologies and contribute to recommendations for system improvements.
Qualifications
Associate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; Bachelors degree preferred.
5 years experience in systems operations and administration, telecommunications network installation, operation and maintenance.
1-2 years of experience in backup and recovery administration.
Proficient in backup tools such as Veritas NetBackup and Azure Backup.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure backup servers or similar cloud backup solutions.
Strong understanding of storage technologies and protocols (SAN, NAS, DAS).
Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell).
Certifications such as ITIL, CCNA, or vendor-specific backup/storage credentials are a plus.

Compensation Salary range: $90,000 - $135,285 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational needs. The salary range listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
