Responsibilities Gulfport Behavioral Health System (a UHS facility) is a 92-bed psychiatric hospital offering child, adolescent, adult and military service behavioral health programs and treatment services. For more information, visit www.gulfportbehavioral.com.

Position Summary The Psychiatrist is responsible for overseeing the quality of care delivered to their patients, assessing clinical appropriateness for admission, performing psychiatric assessments, implementing therapeutic care and directing the treatment team in continuing care efforts. Completes necessary documentation to ensure accurate reimbursement for services provided and, if applicable, addresses patients hospitalized under civil commitment statutes. Provides psychiatric consultations as requested and complies with all Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and facility policies.

Qualifications Education:

Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine supplemented by completion of psychiatric residency training. Board certification or eligibility for Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry or Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Psychiatry.

Experience:

Professional experience of one (1) year experience in a psychiatric health-care facility preferred.

Licensure:

Current license by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.

Knowledge:

General medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; hospital and clinic organization, management and procedures.

Ability:

Skillfully diagnose and treat severely and persistently mentally ill patients; analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; prepare records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; maintain objectivity.
