Principal, Data Architect
Mercedes-Benz Vans USA is seeking a highly experienced Principal, Data Architect to lead data enablement initiatives across the organization. The role focuses on building advanced data solutions, fostering cross‑functional collaboration, and ensuring data strategies align with business objectives.
Job Overview The new team member will refine and create the next steps for data enablement using the latest Azure ecosystem tools such as Synapse, ADF, ADLS, SQL, and NoSQL databases. As the key contact and agile enabler, you will facilitate communication between departments, teams, and stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution of data‑related queries.
Responsibilities
Data modeling and design: Define data structures, dictionaries, and standards, including domain data modelling.
Data architecture: Define end‑to‑end solutions for data products using agile methodologies for MVPs, POCs, etc., optimizing for large‑dataset acquisition, analysis, storage, cleansing, transformation, and visualization.
Data integration: Ensure seamless data flow to the datalake and associated ecosystem.
Data security: Establish policies and procedures to protect data against unauthorized access and breaches.
Data governance: Define policies for data quality, privacy, and retention.
Data strategy: Develop and implement a strategy aligned with the organization’s objectives.
Technology evaluation: Evaluate new and emerging data technologies and recommend adoption.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in SDLC with emphasis on data technologies (SQL, NoSQL), ETL/ELT, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Experience in data warehouse architecture and design of star, snowflake schemas, fact and dimension tables, physical and logical modeling using tools like Erwin, ER Studio, etc.
Extensive experience in data modelling, architecture, solution architecture, master data concepts, and BI to design state‑of‑art data warehouses, marts, and lakes.
Hands‑on experience with Azure data technologies (Data Factory, Databricks, Python, Spark SQL, PySpark SQL, Azure SQL, SSIS, Logic App, Linked Services, Azure ML Studio, triggers, REST APIs, Power BI, Git, etc.).
Experience developing and implementing data governance policies for quality, privacy, and retention.
Experience evaluating new and emerging technologies and recommending adoption.
Soft Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives and influence without authority.
Strong problem‑solving mindset with a collaborative spirit.
Adaptability and resilience in fast‑paced environments.

Education Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (accredited school) with emphasis in Computer/Information Science, Information Technology Engineering, or Management Information Systems (MIS).
