OVERVIEW :
Our client is hiring a
Controller
that will manage the business’s day to day financial operations and report directly to the President. This individual will lead financial oversight for our cannabis entity and the various cannabis ventures that the organization pursues.

We are a privately owned, fast‑paced, fast‑growing, and successful startup in Chicago, now operating in Puerto Rico under ACT 60! This is an outstanding leadership opportunity to help shape the organization for future growth.
As a Controller, your responsibilities will include:
Assist with management of financial and accounting activities for main and various entities.
Establish, implement, and streamline financial policies, procedures, and internal controls for various business units.
Provide cost accounting leadership to identify inconsistencies and irregularities in operational costs.
Assist with acquisition opportunities and integration of acquired businesses.
Create and drive reporting to influence business decisions throughout the organization.
Manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for accurate business reporting.
Responsible for assisting in the timely month‑end close process.
Lead the department in preparing budgets and forecasts and in analyzing results throughout the year.
Provide financial analysis on balance sheet accounts.
Lead the oversight of tax returns and policies.
Coordinate activities of external auditors, insurance brokers, payroll providers and 3rd party vendors.
On‑going focus and attention to cost reduction.
Team leadership through hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff.
Provide detailed analysis and ad hoc reporting as requested.
The Controller position is well‑suited for you if you possess:
Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects independently.
Entrepreneurial and analytical mindset with a strong focus on attention to detail.
Diligent and meticulous when vital, paired with the ability to understand the broader business context and strategic importance.
Audit experience from a professional audit firm is a plus.
Excellent digital literacy skills (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint).
Qualified candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field; Master of Business Administration preferred.
Minimum 4-8 years of experience in managing a Finance department and implementing standard operating procedures and systems as they relate to finance.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, not required.
Fluency in QuickBooks, Sage (Sage Intacct) or other applications relating to accounting and finance.
Extensive experience in accounts payable, month‑end duties, and account reconciliations.
