About the Opportunity We are looking for multi‑skilled candidates with technical support experience to support County Fire technical needs. The IT Specialist will work in a multi‑faced support role that requires a broad range of technical and interpersonal skills. The position is responsible for administering, monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing the County Fire’s mobile data computer fleet, station networking, and end‑user devices.

The Department The County of San Luis Obispo Information Technology Department (ITD) offers an exciting, fast‑paced environment where exceptional performance is encouraged and rewarded. ITD consists of 78 staff within four operational divisions: Administration; Applications; Project Delivery; and Infrastructure & Operations. ITD resources are operated and maintained to support high availability of services while minimizing risk of business interruption. ITD focuses on developing a sustainable, customer‑focused technology environment that enhances and improves the quality of technology services used by County departments for the benefit of all County residents, businesses, and visitors. This role provides exposure to work with all county departments and 23 different industries. Technical Support Experience

iPad fleet management.

In‑vehicle installation best practices, including cable management and power.

Microsoft Office 365 online services: Exchange Online, Teams, and OneDrive.

Microsoft SharePoint Online websites.

Field incoming problem tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues within servers, databases, and other systems.

Perform hands‑on fixes for assigned desktop computers and servers, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, configuring file backups, and configuring systems and applications.

Record, track, and document the problem‑solving process and outcomes.

Communicate problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, technical teams, and end users.

Test software patches and perform post‑resolution follow‑up with customers to ensure problems are adequately resolved.

Coordinate with stakeholders to assess departmental application training needs and objectives.

Participate in the design, development, and delivery of software applications, training programs, and individual classes.

Perform preventative maintenance, including the installation of service packs, patches, hot‑fixes, anti‑virus software, etc.

Create and deploy feedback mechanisms for end users; review results, make recommendations for support process improvement, and implement changes.

Conduct research into software application products and services in support of development and purchasing efforts.

Assist in implementing and advancing information security best practices and Countywide initiatives.

May direct and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

Maintain County standards for system hardware and software; document system‑related processes.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, other County employees, vendors, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Minimum Qualifications Information Technology Specialist I: Either (A) An Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field AND one year of experience equivalent to an Information Technology Technician; OR (B) Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) or equivalent AND two years of experience equivalent to an Information Technology Technician.

Information Technology Specialist II: In addition to the above, one year of experience equivalent to an Information Technology Specialist I.

A valid California driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
