About the Role The Electrical Engineer will design power distribution systems, components, and infrastructure for a wide range of energy projects. The role involves conducting technical analyses, collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, and providing power to process equipment and control systems. The position is located in Baton Rouge, LA; Houston, TX; or Detroit, MI.

Key Responsibilities

Energy transition projects ranging from conceptual studies to detailed design with Tier 1 and 2 clients across the energy sector

Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and GHD’s policies

Understanding client needs and providing solutions that meet their objectives

Assist in proposal preparation including scope development and preparation of engineering estimates

Creation and / or review and approval of power studies (including Arc Flash studies)

Preparation and / or review and approval of final electrical equipment selection, specifications, and drawing submittals on projects

Code‑driven detailed design work including preparation of electrical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for green and brownfields facilities

Project leadership of electrical design resources to deliver studies and detail design projects in the above areas

Ensuring projects are delivered according to the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.

Mentoring and career development of graduate and junior electrical engineers within the team

Continuous networking with colleagues and peers in the industry

Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Engineering Drawings: Create complex engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred or the ability to obtain one.

Experience

6+ years’ experience in the design of electrical power generation, distribution and utilization systems including MV main and secondary substations, power distribution equipment, protective relaying and metering, electrical power generating equipment and systems, UPS and power conditioning systems, lightning and surge protection systems, motors and motor controls, indoor/outdoor lighting systems, electrical heat tracing, wiring methods and/or grounding systems

Excellent understanding of NFPA70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B and other electrical industry codes, standards and recommended practices

Experience with ETAP or SKM computer‑assisted electrical power study programs including short‑circuit, protective relaying coordination and arc‑flash studies

Experience working with Visual Lighting software

Experience in specification of electrical equipment, initiating RFQs, and documenting bid evaluations for equipment selection

Basic understanding of PLC’s

Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with clients, colleagues, designers, engineers, and project managers.

Ability to meet with clients to represent our technical capabilities

Strong attention to detail, adaptable, agile, and responsive to quick changes in direction

Strong organizational and time management skills

Strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities
