Locum Consultant in Breast Radiology

This is an opportunity to apply for an 18‑month locum breast radiologist post, joining an already established happy and supportive team of six experienced breast consultant radiologists and one consultant radiographer. The locum post is to cover a training post, but further substantive posts will be available in the very near future.
The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust manages the Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Programme together with symptomatic breast imaging for Worcestershire. The Breast Imaging Service is led by a Clinical Lead for Breast Imaging with a separate Director of Breast Screening for H & W.
The post will involve both screening and symptomatic breast imaging. The post holder will have breast imaging duties at Worcester Breast Unit and at the Breast Unit at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
There will be active involvement in regular Multi‑Disciplinary Meetings provided by cancer services.
Main duties of the job The post holder will undertake a range of symptomatic breast imaging including: mammography and ultrasound breast and axilla for rapid access breast clinics, mammographic reporting, breast and axillary diagnostic ultrasound and image‑guided (mammographic or ultrasound) markings, localisations, breast and axillary biopsies, ultrasound‑guided breast drainage and film reading.

Job responsibilities The post holder will provide consultation and advisory services to patients of the Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi‑disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will work within multi‑disciplinary teams to provide high‑quality clinical care, collaborate with colleagues to deliver a timely service, and help meet the Trust’s objectives. The post will be based at two sites and will provide cross‑county and cross‑site meetings.
The post holder will participate in the Trust’s annual appraisal, revalidation and job planning process, provide cross cover for study leave, and take part in departmental and multidisciplinary audit programmes.
The post holder will maintain continuing medical education and support the principles of revalidation by the GMC.
Person Specification Research Experience
Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
An awareness of current speciality‑specific developments and initiatives
Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years
Evidence of having undertaken original research
Personal Attributes
Ability to work in a team
Enquiring, critical approach to work
Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
Commitment to continuing medical education
Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
Teaching Experience
Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
Ability to supervise postgraduate research
Qualifications
Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology (or expected within six months of interview date) via:
oCCT or CESR (CP)
oCESR or
oEuropean Community Rights
Experience
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in Clinical Radiology.
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty.
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Expertise in sub‑specialty.
Experience in vacuum‑assisted biopsy and excision procedures.
Experience in breast MRI.
Management and Administrative Experience
Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services.
Ability to manage outpatient priorities.
Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multidisciplinary team.
Experience in audit management and conducting clinical audit.
Ability to manage and lead specialist units and working parties as appropriate.
Ability to use evidence‑based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Other Requirements
An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues.
Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
£109,725 to £145,478 a year, subject to agreed sessions.
