We have an exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant Neurologist (up to 2 years).

Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a Consultant Neurologist to join our team of 9 consultants. This is an exciting time to join our growing department.

We welcome applications for consultants wanting to develop a subspecialist service tailored to your expertise. For example our team lead on Epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's, Headache & Migraine, Stroke, to name a few.

Main duties of the job As a Locum Consultant Neurologist, you will:

Deliver high-quality general neurology services across Worcestershire

Develop and lead a subspecialty service in your area of expertise

Provide outpatient care across multiple hospital sites including Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital

Take part in inpatient neurology care at Worcester Royal Hospital, including ward referrals

Work closely with a diverse MDT to deliver seamless patient care

Engage in teaching and research

Participate in the duty neurologist rota, including a 1 in 8 weekend rota.

Job responsibilities We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant with the passion to develop and deliver high‑quality care at Worcester Royal Hospital and cross county cover.

Person Specification Other Requirements

An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues

Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call

Qualifications

Full GMC Registration with Licence to practise

Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent eg MRCP

Experienced in Neurology care

Entry on Specialist Register in Neurology or Acute Medicine & Stroke or General Medicine and Elderly Care Medicine (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)

Experience

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Acute/General Medicine/Neurology

Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty

Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Expertise in Neurology and stroke care across acute, inpatient & community rehabilitation

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in either Neurology or Stroke

Management and Administrative Experience

Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively

Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service

Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities

Ability to manage and lead the stroke firm and multi‑disciplinary team

Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit

Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate

Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making

Teaching Experience

Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines

Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates

Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Research Experience

Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives

Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last 5 years

Evidence of having undertaken original research

Willingness to support stroke research.
