The
Systems Engineer – Platform
provides a combination of software and systems engineering knowledge, skills, abilities, standards, and best practices to the Systems Engineering and Architecture Services (SEAS) team. The Systems Engineer (SE) implements modern and next generation (NexGen) IT solutions that leverage a wide variety of vendors and cloud‑native technologies. The SE executes tasks to support the development, maturity, and efficiency of an information technology system.
Responsibilities
Architect scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure solutions consistent with industry’s best practices and lead the migration of legacy systems to modern cloud environments
Engineer and implement secure, scalable, and automated container and orchestration solutions to support microservices and cloud‑native applications
Implement infrastructure‑as‑code and automation pipelines to support repeatable and reliable container deployments
Capture, analyze, and decompose Government, stakeholder, technical, and/or product requirements to develop formal recommendations for proposed solution
Define and design baseline/standard service offerings and develop supporting documentation including integration guides, migration plans, and risk assessment/mitigation plans for new or updated technologies
Provide technical leadership on container platform adoption, modernization, and migration efforts, and provide reach‑back SME support when unforeseen obstacles and complex issues arise
Develop and implement industry best practices through standards, guidelines, processes, and procedures
Create presentations, review proposals/change requests, and provide recommendations for topics to CIO decision boards, including the architecture review board, technical review board, and program control board as needed
Requirements
TS/SCI Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain CI Poly
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or Software Engineering from an accredited University; OR Certification: CompTIA Security+
5 or more years of proven hands‑on experience engineering and implementing cloud solutions (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure) with demonstrated proficiency in the following cloud areas, strategy development, networking, security, disaster recovery & business continuity planning, and automation and orchestration
5 or more years of proven hands‑on experience engineering and implementing enterprise‑level container orchestration platform solutions such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, and/or Google GKE, with demonstrate proficiency in the following container areas; cluster management, deployment and automation, monitoring and logging, security, troubleshooting and performance optimization
Excellent analytical, technical, communication, planning, presentation and organizational skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences both verbally and technically, including internal teams, senior leaders, vendors, partners, customers, and stakeholders
Proven hands‑on experience engineering and implementing cloud solutions (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure) with demonstrated proficiency in the following cloud areas, strategy development, networking, security, disaster recovery & business continuity planning, and automation and orchestration
Proven hands‑on experience engineering and implementing enterprise‑level container orchestration platform solutions such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, and/or Google GKE, with demonstrate proficiency in the following container areas; cluster management, deployment and automation, monitoring and logging, security, troubleshooting and performance optimization
Desired Skills
Understanding and knowledge of systems development life cycle methodologies (e.g., waterfall, spiral, agile software development, rapid prototyping, incremental, synchronize and stabilize, and DevSecOps)
Familiarity with the concept, implementation, and operations association with DevSecOps in a hybrid IT organization, including collaborating with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance, Cybersecurity, and Project Management teams to support complex systems
Kubernetes technical certification such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator or Certified Kubernetes Developer, along with cloud‑native credentials such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Associate
Knowledge of various cloud technologies and experience providing infrastructure support in a hybrid cloud environment
Shall meet the minimum credential requirements for a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) position as defined for the IT (Cyberspace) discipline: Research & Development (R&D) Specialist (661) – Intermediate Level
