Stonehill College is seeking a Campus Police Officer to patrol Campus buildings and grounds to prevent theft, trespass, vandalism, or violations of College policies.
Position Summary
The Campus Police Officer will be responsible for enforcing parking and vehicle regulations, directing traffic, investigating accidents, and exercising law enforcement powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patrol and protect College buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas at regular intervals. Enforce parking and vehicle regulations and direct traffic. Investigate complaints and refer them to appropriate supervisory officials. Protect students, faculty, and staff in the transportation of monies and other valuables. Respond promptly to all fire alarms and conduct fire drills. Provide emergency transportation for students, faculty, administrators, and staff during medical emergencies. Prepare qualitative investigative reports of incidents during the tour of duty. Work in harmony with the switchboard operator on duty to promptly respond to and follow through on reports. Education and/or Experience
A high school graduate or general education degree (GED) is required; a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college in the area of Criminal Justice or Social Sciences is preferred. Must be a graduate of a full-time Municipal Police Academy Training certified and approved by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) or equivalent. Candidates MUST be a certified police officer in Massachusetts per MPTC/POST standards. Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a police officer within a residential college or university environment is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Officers will be exposed to all types of weather conditions and may have to spend extensive periods in such conditions. They may be exposed to loud noises when responding to alarms or working extra duty at concerts or construction sites. Licenses/Certifications
Must have completed an approved police academy, which will allow for immediate Police Powers through C. 22C: S63 of Massachusetts General Laws. Must be able to complete a field training program.
