Position Summary
The Campus Police Officer will patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent theft, trespass, vandalism, or violations of College policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare incident reports on a routine basis and provide testimony in court, college judicial hearings, and any other processes as deemed necessary.
Perform building checks. Lock and unlock buildings and rooms based on the building schedule and special requests.
Enforce parking and vehicle rules and regulations. Direct traffic and investigate accidents.
Perform security details at related functions and special events as assigned.
Respond promptly to alarms including fire, carbon monoxide, card access, and intrusion alarms; conduct fire drills and assist with the periodic inspection of safety equipment.
Investigate crimes and other incidents in conjunction with the department detective as assigned.
Assist in the field training of new officers.
May be required to work overtime on short notice. This position is considered essential personnel by the College.
Must be able to attend police in-service training programs, and training programs as mandated by the College.
Perform any other duties as assigned, which are necessary to enhance public safety on campus and protect the lives, safety, and property of the students, faculty, staff, and guests of the college.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
A minimum of an associate degree or higher in criminal justice or a related field, one to three years of related work experience or a combination of education and experience, and successful completion of a police recruit training program equivalent to the MPTC standards. Ability to successfully pass the Police Psychological Exam and pre-employment physical is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a police officer within a residential college or university environment is preferred.
Required to work various shifts and holidays, and may be subject to report for duty at any time.

Must possess discretion and the ability to keep all records, communications, and other information relative to the nature of the department’s work in absolute confidence. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with all members of the community effectively. Must have the ability to deal professionally with confrontational situations, and difficult people, and remain non-judgmental in the handling of all situations.
Must possess excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the community.
Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and verbal instructions. Ability to use discretion and make sound judgments.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
Candidates will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and will be required to pass a physical agility test as required for entrance into an academy. A pre-employment psychological test will also be conducted.
Employees will have to successfully qualify with the department-issued weapon upon being hired or will receive such training in the recognized academy.
Candidates must be able to complete a pre-employment background check including a criminal history and motor vehicle driver history check.
Licenses/Certifications
The candidate must meet the requirements of MGL 22C Section 63 and Title 515 of the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, governing the standards and skills for Special State Police Officers.
Must have completed an approved police academy, which will allow for immediate Police Powers through C. 22C: S63 of Massachusetts General Laws.
Must be able to successfully complete a field training program.
Willingness to complete specialized training in policing and a willingness to utilize those skills within the department.
Must have a license to carry firearms, perform CPR , First Responder, and a valid Driver’s License.
