Senior Energy Engineer
Energy Efficiency Recruiter
with CLEAResult. Lead the delivery of retro‑commissioning and commissioning services within dynamic, mission‑driven retrofit energy projects. Conduct onsite technical assessments, implement energy‑saving measures, and optimize HVAC and building management systems (BMS) to enhance energy performance and reduce operating costs in critical commercial and industrial facilities across the U.S.
Main Responsibilities
Lead and deliver multiple retro‑commissioning (RCx) projects, from initial site assessment through implementation and energy performance verification.
Lead the commissioning scope for multiple retrofit energy projects, beginning with documentation of owner project requirements through function and performance testing and final closeout documentation.
Prepare project estimates, schedules, and work plans.
Conduct design reviews, submittal reviews, facilitation of training plans, and O&M manual reviews. Review product data submittals across multiple projects to ensure equipment aligns with performance requirements and owner specifications.
Develop plans for on‑site testing, create pre‑functional and functional checklists, conduct field functional testing, document test results, maintain issue resolution logs, and prepare commissioning reports.
Execute and conduct ASHRAE Level I and II energy audits, field investigations, baselining, benchmarking, implementation management, and M&V.
Complete engineering calculations in spreadsheets for energy savings analysis.
Conduct detailed facility assessments and system diagnostics to identify operational inefficiencies, develop and recommend strategies to maximize operating efficiency.
Utilize utility billing and meter data, data logging equipment, and BMS trend data to evaluate system performance and identify optimization strategies.
Develop and document energy efficiency measures (EEMs) with quantifiable savings, cost‑benefit analysis, and implementation strategies; produce written reports detailing technical and financial analyses and resulting recommendations.
Use statistical tools to review energy data trends, develop and maintain statistical facility‑wide energy models, conduct M&V analysis, and complete M&V reporting.
Stay informed on industry best practices, energy codes, and utility incentive programs to support continuous improvement and innovation in RCx delivery. Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge.
Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Eight or more years of controls and HVAC commissioning and retro commissioning experience.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of MEP system design and operation and BMS control strategies for critical facilities, including data centers and technical campuses, hospitals, and life science laboratories.
Experience working with multiple building management systems, e.g., ALC, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, etc.
Demonstrated skill completing ASHRAE Level I and II energy audits, field investigations, baselining, benchmarking, project implementation management, and M&V.
Demonstrated ability to calculate energy savings, perform financial analysis, and write compelling energy reports.
Bachelor or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
PE license preferred.
ANSI accredited commissioning certification through ASHRAE, BCA or ACG.
Energy management or TAB certifications are a plus.
Strong client relationship and client management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs and to lift and carry loads over 30 lbs.
Capable of working on job sites for periods of 8‑10 hours.
Willingness and ability to travel as needed (assume minimum 25%, up to 50%).
Valid driver’s license.
