Job Summary Provides offshore logistical and emergency response support to the Medina Aquarius Program, maintains and operates all underwater laboratory equipment and boats, monitors and maintains Life Support Systems, serves as Diving Supervisor and coordinates diving activities.

Responsibilities

Service and operate all underwater laboratory equipment and support systems (high and low pressure gas systems, life support components, environmental control units).

Monitor critical safety information, ensure diving and support equipment is functional, operate small boats and perform routing and emergency maintenance.

Assist divers in the accomplishment of underwater tasks (placement and retrieval of experiments, measuring, documenting, video and still photography, sampling and collecting, monitoring and observing).

Provide shore‑based logistical support of Aquarius diving and boating operations.

Service and maintain diving equipment, small boats, diesel and outboard engines, monitor inventory and ensure all equipment is ready to support missions.

Serve as Captain aboard ARB research vessel and as a USCG Captain for passenger vessels.

Plan, organize, and oversee special projects as assigned by supervisor.

Collaborate in the development and implementation of the operational budget, bid specifications packages, certifications, inspection documentation, vendor contracts and mission schedules associated with ARB underwater habitat.

Organize, plan, coordinate, and supervise personnel, including ARB sponsored divers, scientists, equipment, and procedures used during saturation diving missions.

Coordinate and prioritize work assignments for employees, part‑time staff, and interns.

Assist the FIU’s Diving Safety Officer in the instruction of specialized diving classes for aquanauts and clients.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

SCUBA diving certification.

Departmental Requirements Ability to pass a Diving Physical Exam in accordance with University Policy within 90 days of hire.

Desired Qualifications

General working knowledge of diesel inboard boat operation and maintenance.

Experience as a military diver, commercial diver or with a University research diving program at a supervisory level.

Current USCG License.

Current certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator.

First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications.

Experience as a boat crew member.

Ability to perform Scientific Diving Operations.
