Overview
Senior Process Engineer- Wastewater at
Chobani
– Idaho production facility. This role will lead processing areas with a particular focus on water and wastewater systems, lead focused problem solving, proactive and predictive process monitoring, and influence across the plant. The Senior Process Engineer will support a fast-paced manufacturing site through cross-functional collaboration and subject matter expertise, driving large-scale transformative and process improvement initiatives. This role has responsibility for ensuring both food safety and quality of Chobani products, and requires a self-sufficient, decisive technical leader. Responsibilities
Serve as a lead technical resource for water and wastewater systems, supporting operations, maintenance, and automation. Track, trend, and report on defined Process Performance Metrics (PPMs); leverage Product Excellence PPM monitoring to drive improvements. Design and implement methods for maintaining or increasing systems’ efficiencies while improving costs, yields, quality, and safety. Develop process optimization ideas and workstreams for water treatment systems, including filtration, softening, reverse osmosis (RO), UV disinfection, and storage. Manage and improve on-site wastewater treatment processes (e.g., SAF systems, pH neutralization) to ensure compliance with discharge permits. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations; prepare and submit required regulatory reports. Provide day-to-day troubleshooting support for operations as needed. Analyze process data to identify inefficiencies or compliance risks and develop corrective action plans. Partner with production teams to monitor effluent characteristics (BOD, COD, TSS, pH, etc.) to minimize surcharges and avoid non-compliance. Provide weekend on-call support for operations and maintenance teams to reduce downtime. Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop preventive maintenance schedules and reliability strategies for pumps, tanks, sensors, blowers, and related equipment. Create and maintain SOPs, P&IDs, training materials, and other process documentation for water/wastewater systems. Participate in the development of emergency procedures for spills, system failures, and environmental incidents; train personnel in response protocols. Provide engineering input into capital project design. Perform other duties as assigned. Occasional travel to vendors and other Chobani sites. Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred, but we welcome applicants with other engineering backgrounds 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and engineering, with emphasis on water and wastewater systems, preferably in large-scale food manufacturing Hands-on experience with water treatment and wastewater equipment Working knowledge of project life cycle deliverables, contracts, and schedules Ability to work in a plant environment around heavy equipment, dust and noise Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SEEQ, CAPE or TOPS, and AutoCAD Seniority level
