For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.
Early Childhood Development Centers provide free Head Start services to low-income families at no cost to the children ages 3 to 5 years. The high-quality services are offered in the center-based program settings available for the Brooklyn and Queens Communities. Through the Montessori approach, the centers ensure children are ready for school by providing a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, language-literacy, and physical development. The Head Start Program strives to actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program, as a key to a child’s robust development as well as to offer the learning experiences tailored to the changing needs and abilities of children.
Statement of the Job The Family Services Coordinator is responsible to coordinate parent involvement and education programs. Under direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Family Services Coordinator will directly supervise Family Assistants and Family Workers providing on-going guidance and support. Responsibilities include but not limited to coordinate recruitment and registration efforts of perspective clients; maintain all intake data; attend and participate in all family related matters; assist families in with family related matters and concerns.
Ensures Family Partnerships Agreements (goals) are developed and followed up with as mandated by funding source performance standards.
Maintains a yearly updates community resources binder, in agreement with the demographic changes within the community.
Plans and implements appropriate orientation into the program for new families.
Coordinates recruitment and registration of new families.
Responsible for ensuring the completion and organization of the reports.
Provides assistance to families.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
B.A. in Human Services/Social Work preferred.
Family Development Credential preferred.
Two years of experience in a human services related field; preferably in an early childhood setting.
Knowledge of consolidates databases preferred.
Bilingual Spanish/English; Russian/English; Chinese/English; Korean/English; English/Creole speaking preferred.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, & crawling.
Occasional running.
Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Able to travel to different locations throughout the five boroughs including but not limited to conducting Home visits.
