About This Unit

9 North ACE unit is a 29‑bed specialty unit that cares for medical patients 65 years old and older. We treat a variety of patients with medical conditions and co‑morbidities. The unit specializes in acute care of the elderly. All nurses are NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders) trained. Additional specialty training is provided to staff in the care of geriatric patients. Through NICHE, all nurses are Geriatric Resource Nurse (GRN) trained and all nursing assistants (NAs) and clinical assistants (CAs) are Geriatric Patient Care Associate (GPCA) trained. The unit offers a dynamic environment with compassionate care and opportunities for learning and professional growth.

Scope of Work

The RN utilizes the ANA scope of practice and the nursing process to provide professional nursing care. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and discharges patients, working under the direction of the Nurse Leader and Corewell Health policies and procedures. The RN partners with patients and families in care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing required.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years for GN or RN with less than 1 year of experience.
• Graduates from a non‑accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) required within 60 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire from one of the following organizations – American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke.
