Position Summary The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in social psychology to start July 1, 2026. Successful candidates may specialize in any area of social psychology, though we are especially interested in applicants with research programs that complement the program’s existing strengths in either topic or approach. Topics of interest include the social psychology of AI, interpersonal and group processes, race, culture, and organizations, emotion, morality, health and well-being, judgment and decision making, or behavior change and self‑regulation. Successful candidates will have a strong record of research productivity, the potential to develop an independent, externally funded research program that involves doctoral students, plus a commitment to teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Responsibilities Primary responsibilities of the position will include conducting high‑quality research, publishing in peer‑reviewed journals and broader dissemination, seeking external funding for research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses under the umbrella of social psychology, contributing to research mentoring of doctoral students, and engaging in departmental, university, and professional service activities.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment.

Excellent record of research productivity.

Potential to develop an independently, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program.

Commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
