As a Systems Architect, you will design, integrate, optimize and verify complex ion implantation systems and subsystems. You will bring systems‑level design thinking to cross‑functional teams to drive solutions that comply with stakeholder requirements. You will analyze requirements, brainstorm and trade‑off potential architectures, prototype and test subsystems, perform risk assessments, and act as the primary architect of the product line, becoming the subject‑matter expert on the implanter system and leading the technical voice on the product core team. Key Responsibilities
Assist in defining Product Requirements Document for NPI projects. Provide systems‑level design thinking to guide complex engineering projects that combine data science, electrical, mechanical, physics, chemistry and software algorithm development. Conceptualize prototypes and tests to rapidly feedback learnings and risks for ongoing roadmap projects, including FMEA assessment and testing. Lead investigation teams using structured problem‑solving tools such as 8D to drive multi‑level solutions to field investigations that extend beyond field service and product support. Stay up to date on risk assessments and feature developments on adjacent projects to ensure a common approach across the Axcelis Purion portfolio. Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Physical, Computer or Data Sciences with a minimum of 8 years as an individual contributor with increasing responsibility in system design. Master’s Degree in Engineering or Physical, Computer or Data Sciences with a minimum of 4 years as an individual contributor with increasing responsibility in system design. Doctoral Degree in Engineering or Physical, Computer or Data Sciences. Preferred Skills and Experience
Understanding of capital equipment/tools/requirements of the Semiconductor industry (ion implantation preferred but not required). Experience with laboratory testing equipment (e.g., digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, residual gas analyzers, MEMS sensors). Proficiency in tools for rapid analysis of large data sets (e.g., JMP, Python, MATLAB). Ability to clearly document and communicate step‑by‑step algorithms to non‑programmers. Ability to provide peer review to fellow Systems Architects to constructively identify risks and mitigations. Required experience with quality tools such as FMEA, Ishikawa, 5‑Whys and 8D. Independently identify problem statements and propose cost‑effective corrective action plans. Ability to analyze and decompose complex problems into actionable project definitions for functional teams of various disciplines. Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of functional experts. Other

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$114,026.00 - $171,039.00. This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations. Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and a comprehensive benefits package for regular employees working 20+ hours a week.
