Join GDIT as a Senior Back-End Developer to build and integrate services for a new healthcare portal hosted on a modern Azure-native stack. You will develop and optimize serverless APIs using Azure Functions, manage integrations through Azure API Management, and implement secure data workflows backed by Azure SQL.
This role requires hands-on expertise in API design, database development, and Azure services within a FedRAMP/HIPAA-compliant environment. You’ll collaborate closely with front‑end developers, architects, and DevOps engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient backend services.
This role is fully remote!
This role has a targeted start date towards the end of 2025/early 2026.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain Azure Functions to support business logic and data workflows.
Build and manage APIs with Azure API Management (APIM), including versioning, throttling, and policy enforcement.
Develop and optimize Azure SQL stored procedures, queries, and schema design for high performance and scalability.
Implement authentication/authorization using Microsoft Entra ID External (Azure AD B2C) for backend services.
Integrate backend services with front‑end applications and external healthcare data systems.
Contribute to unit and integration testing, supporting automated testing pipelines.
Ensure compliance with FedRAMP, HIPAA, and FISMA security and data handling standards.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, including automated deployments and monitoring.
Document APIs, workflows, and backend processes to support maintainability and onboarding.
Troubleshoot and resolve backend performance, scalability, and reliability issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in backend development, with at least 3+ years building solutions on Azure.
Strong experience with Azure Functions and API Management (APIM).
Proficiency in Azure SQL development (stored procedures, indexing, query optimization).
Hands‑on experience with authentication and authorization using Entra ID (Azure AD B2C).
Familiarity with event‑driven and serverless architectures.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
Strong understanding of secure coding practices, data protection, and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, HIPAA).
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
Experience with unit testing, mocking frameworks, and integration test automation.
Familiarity with SonarCloud or similar code quality tools.
Experience in Agile development with JIRA for backlog and sprint management.
Background in healthcare application development or other regulated industries.

The likely salary range for this position is $76,500 - $103,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
