About the Opportunity The College invites applications for an Assistant Dean of the College for Pre-Law Advising. Responsibilities
Provide academic advising and support to undergraduate students as an academic dean, while also holding particular expertise in the area of pre-law advising.
Counsel undergraduates and recent alumni about career pathways and applications to law school.
Collaborate with the Pre-Professional Advising team, Center for Career Exploration, and Office of Alumni Relations to support students and alumni interested in learning more about the legal profession.
Develop strong relationships with faculty and administrators to expand faculty support for students interested in law careers.
Serve as a member of various College and University committees, as assigned, and report to the Senior Associate Dean of the College for Co-Curriculum.
Major Responsibilities
Support Students and Alumni Through Pre-Law Advising.
Advise and Mentor Undergraduates for Success in the Context of Brown's Open Curriculum as an Academic Advising Dean Within the College.
Develop and Deliver Pre-Law Programs and Resources.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Earned master's degree; JD strongly preferred.
3-5 years of relevant experience in the legal profession or equivalent experience as an advisor and/or academic administrator at a college or university.
Background in higher education academic advising, career planning, or teaching strongly preferred.
Job Competencies
Student-centered approach to advising and mentoring, with particular attention to supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds.
Experience and/or familiarity with requirements and applications for graduate schools for the legal profession.
Experience in academic program administration, including planning and development, implementation, and assessment.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and mobilize others (staff, faculty, students) to achieve shared results.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, discretion, sound judgment, and leadership skills.
Ability to take initiative and work independently in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities.
Additional Information Occasional evening and weekend work required for essential Pre-Professional Advising, College, and University events.
