Social Services Specialist
Location: Maryville, MO. This position is part of the Department of Social Services – Children’s Division, which partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth, and promote family self-sufficiency.
Job Focus: Provide family preservation and reunification services, investigate abuse and neglect allegations, and conduct foster care and adoption case management. The role requires collaboration with juvenile courts, hotlines, and community professionals.
Responsibilities
Direct and participate in the delivery of social services related to adoption, child abuse and neglect, protective services, intensive services, foster care, and related areas.
Receive referrals from juvenile courts, abuse/neglect hotlines, Family Support Division staff, or other community professionals for protection and care of neglected, abused, or exploited children.
Conduct detailed case studies; prepare evaluations of social, economic, and environmental factors; and make recommendations to staff regarding treatment and placement plans.
Perform diagnostic and assessment services to assist staff in the development and implementation of treatment, placement, and service plans.
Attend court hearings and meetings related to assigned casework.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate Social Services Specialist: High School Diploma or equivalent, four or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in protective services, including casework/case management in investigations of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family-centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and in-home family crisis intervention; and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Social Work or a comparable human services field.
Social Services Specialist (II): Five or more years of professional experience in protective services with a public or private agency, plus the above qualifications.
Social Services Specialist (III): Six or more years of professional experience in protective services with a public or private agency, plus the above qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations.
Excellent problem-solving, time management, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Availability to travel throughout Missouri as needed.
