Responsibilities
Serve as Enviva internal subject matter expert for fire protection equipment and processes.
Champion consistency across our sites and projects by implementing leading practices with the goal of achieving companywide consistency.
Implement sound engineering solutions for mitigating existing issues, drive continuous improvement, and introduce innovations where appropriate.
Lead the education and training of our teams on fire protection systems to improve overall performance and compliance.
Contribute to the development of proactive maintenance & reliability practices to ensure that the controls for fire and explosion systems are effective and reliable.
Support / lead our internal Process and Dust Hazard Analysis (PHA/DHA).
Actively identify controls to improve the mitigation of fire and explosion hazards and manage follow‑up actions to ensure their effective implementation.
Lead the creation and management of effective KPI.
Facilitate problem solving and contributing factor investigations related to fire prevention and incidents, working closely with plant teams, engineering, EHS, and others.
Support facilities in the development of Emergency Response Plans for fires and explosions.
Serve as the point of communication for existing fire systems equipment and OEM support.
Qualifications
An engaged safety leader who genuinely cares about and contributes to creating safe outcomes very shift, day and week.
Effective communicator who can help our teams understand our systems, their functions, and leading diagnostic / maintenance practices.
Knowledge in fire water systems including industrial wet/dry sprinkler systems, fire water pumps both diesel and electric, hydrants and PIVs, etc.
Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
Minimum 2‑year degree with preference in fire protection, emergency response, or other safety related field.
5 years of experience working with fire protection in industrial manufacturing settings.
On the job experience with combustible dust specific practices.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the application of problem‑solving tools such as cause mapping, 5 why, and 5S.
Must be data‑driven and possess a high level of attention to detail.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to learn other applications related to the job.
Self‑starter with ability to prioritize workload.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a wood products processing industry OR experience working in Fire Protection discipline.
Experience participating in Process Hazard Analysis/Dust Hazard Analysis.
Experience with fire and explosion hazard prevention, detection, suppression, and mitigation systems. Proficiency in spark, thermal, and gas detection technologies.
Proficiency in spark, thermal, and gas detection technologies.
Familiarity with water‑and chemical‑based suppression and isolation systems.
Knowledge of inert gas applications, including nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
Understanding of explosion venting techniques and related safety protocols.
