Our client, a leader in safety-critical software development, is seeking a Software Safety Engineer to design, assess, and ensure the safety of complex software systems in compliance with industry standards. This role will work closely with software development teams to integrate safety requirements throughout the software lifecycle, perform hazard analyses, and validate system reliability and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

Design and support development of software systems with a focus on safety compliance and risk mitigation.

Conduct hazard analyses, safety assessments, and functional hazard evaluations to identify potential risks.

Develop and implement software safety requirements and guidelines for engineering teams.

Collaborate with software engineers to integrate safety considerations into design, coding, and testing processes.

Perform safety verification and validation activities, including participation in design and verification reviews.

Conduct assessments such as System Safety Assessment (SSA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Software Hazard Analysis (SwHA), Software Failure Mode Effects Analysis (SwFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), reliability predictions, and Level of Rigor (LOR) evaluations.

Stay current with emerging trends, methodologies, and best practices in software safety engineering.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

5+ years of experience in software safety engineering or a related field.

Knowledge of safety standards such as MIL-STD-882, DO-178, and DO-254.

Hands‑on experience with safety analysis techniques including FMEA, FTA, and hazard analysis.

Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and familiarity with software development methodologies and tools.

Preferred:

Advanced degree in Software Engineering or a related field.

Strong understanding of software safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Experience with software safety verification and validation techniques.

Proven track record of leading safety‑critical software projects.

Detail‑oriented with a commitment to quality and safety.

Ability to work collaboratively in dynamic environments and drive continuous improvement.
