Position Summary:

Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is seeking applications for the position of Instructor or Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre and Theatre Program Coordinator. This full-time faculty position includes teaching responsibilities in Communication and Theatre, as well as coordinating theatre-related activities and collaborations with community partners. The successful candidate will work closely with students, faculty, staff, and local theatre organizations to support and enhance theatre programming at SENMC and in the broader community.

Requirements for the Position:

The Instructor or Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre and Theatre Program Coordinator must hold a graduate-level degree (Master’s or higher) in either Communication or Theatre, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the other discipline, as required by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The candidate will be responsible for full-time teaching and program coordination duties, including developing and delivering theatre and communication courses. The ideal candidate will have experience in theatre production, instructional excellence, and program development. Strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to community engagement, are essential. The successful candidate must be willing to live in Carlsbad, New Mexico, or the surrounding area close enough to commute.

Duties:

Teach a full-time course load of 27-30 credit hours per academic year, including Fall and Spring semesters, with potential for additional summer teaching.

Teach sections of COMM 1115G: Communication and COMM 1130G: Public Speaking in person to meet the needs of the college.

Conduct course and program assessments, in addition to program review, to ensure academic excellence and alignment with institutional and accreditation standards.

Lead efforts in program development and growth, including expanding course offerings and fostering student engagement in theatre.

Serve on at least two standing college committees.

Recommend, develop, and teach Theatre (THEA) course offerings in consultation with the Department Chair for English, Communication, Fine Arts, & Digital Media.

Provide consultation and masterclass sessions in acting, design, and theatre production to support SENMC students and community theatre initiatives.

Attend and represent SENMC at theatre performances and events supported or sponsored by SENMC, Carlsbad Municipal School, Cavern Theatre, and Carlsbad Community Theatre and regional or state theatre organizations.

Serve as the SENMC representative on theatre-related boards and committees that support local theatre initiatives.

Maintain rigorous academic and artistic standards while fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment.

Perform other professional duties as assigned.
