Position Summary Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is seeking applications for the position of Instructor or Assistant Professor of English. This full-time faculty position will teach courses in developmental English, composition, professional and technical communication, writing in the humanities, and other courses as assigned. Will be assigned to teach on a 9-month contract of 15 credit hours per semester.
In addition, the following duties and responsibilities apply:
Must be willing to teach weekends and evenings as assigned.
Must teach effectively to a diverse student body.
Must participate in professional development activities.
Must serve on at least two committees each year for the benefit of Southeast New Mexico College and maintaining shared governance.
Must be willing to develop and teach online courses.
Must perform meaningful course and program level assessment as required.
Must have a responsive communication style with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and other stakeholders.
Must be willing to live in Carlsbad, New Mexico, or the surrounding area close enough to commute.
Requirements for the Position
Experience working with underprepared students and community college students in a small classroom environment.
Experience teaching students how to study and develop good working habits.
Background in current teaching research strategies and new approaches to pedagogy will be an asset.
Adaptability to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances.
Ability to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy.
Sensitivity to cultural differences within the college and community.
Collaborate and innovate with colleagues on new initiatives.
