Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Ambulatory Care Nurse - Per Diem.
Responsibilities and duties In this role, the successful candidate will support the coordination, integration, communication, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures. The Ambulatory Care Nurse will participate in site and organizational quality and performance improvement activities, collect patient healthcare data systematically using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments, and collaborate with licensed providers to develop patient-centered plans of care that prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes. The role includes administration of treatments and medications, sentinel event monitoring, disease prevention guidance, rehabilitation care, public health care, and supportive care for symptom relief including health teaching and health counseling.
Job Responsibilities
Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
Collects patient health history.
Records information in electronic health record.
Provides information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans as directed.
Administers medications (including vaccination, IV therapy, oxygen administration), provides comprehensive wound care, and performs phone and in-person patient triage for clinical concerns.
Assesses and monitors patient responses to various treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
Assesses and interprets patient information, making treatment decisions as appropriate.
Consults with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine best treatment plans for patients.
Directs, supervises, and delegates to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and technicians as needed to support patient flow and efficiency.
Performs other duties as needed.
Clinical Responsibilities
Supports the coordination, integration, communication, implementation and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.
Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
Supports key quality initiatives to impact clinical outcome measures.
Demonstrates knowledge of the NYULH Service Standards and incorporates into responsibilities.
Participates in activities related to NYULH clinical standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of NYULH, Departments of Nursing, and FGP.
Participates in coordination of on-site activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane and caring environment.
Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships.
Serves as a support and resource for nursing, other clinical staff and providers.
Participates in clinical inquiry and activities to foster evidence-based practice.

Case-finding: identify co-morbidities or emergent complications and report to the provider for intervention.
Co-ordination: integrate care with other health care providers.
Provision of direct care services: administer treatments and medication, provide health teaching and counseling.
Task / Procedure
Collects and documents patient clinical history and assessment data.
Performs onsite testing, e.g., POC lab testing, EKG, specimen collection, screenings, fetal monitoring and other assessments.
Performs medical and nursing treatments in accordance with plan of care and provider orders.
Performs procedures and cares for wounds, dressings, and casts; supports minor and major procedures as appropriate.
Monitors patients during pre, intra, and post procedures, including medications and sedation as applicable.
Provides medication administration per policy and orders including oxygen therapy.
Facilitates medication refills by reviewing clinical information and preparing orders for provider authorization.
Administers IV therapy and manages peripheral or central lines with appropriate certification.
Starts and discontinues IV lines and maintains IV access.
Communication and Message Management
Manages clinical in-baskets and closes encounters in a timely manner.
Receives, documents, and reports critical lab values; relays results to patients as directed.
Performs triage for clinical concerns and escalates as needed; provides clinical advice within scope.
Performs care/case management for defined populations with multidisciplinary plans.
Health Promotion & Education
Identifies deviations in health and wellbeing; advocates and initiates actions to promote safety and health.
Collects and analyzes patient data; determines health status and nursing diagnoses.
Educates patients and families to facilitate healthy adjustments and plan of care.
Develops patient-centered plans of care and facilitates learning needs.
Patient Experience
Upholds the NYU Langone Health mission and promotes excellence in patient experience.
Drives consistency in patient and colleague encounters using service principles.

Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York. If hired after 9/1/25: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required; Associate Degree in Nursing may be approved contingent upon approval from Nursing Leadership, with a minimum of two years nursing experience and enrollment in a baccalaureate nursing program to be completed within 2 years of hire. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
Required Licenses Registered Nurse License - NYS; Basic Life Support Certification
Preferred Qualifications ACLS certification; membership in pertinent professional organizations; prefers a minimum of 1 year experience.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
