Georgia Power is seeking a dynamic and experienced Media Relations Manager to lead strategic media engagement efforts and serve as a key spokesperson for the company. This role is responsible for managing a team of media professionals, developing proactive and reactive media strategies, and ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely communication with the public and press.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor a team of media relations specialists, ensuring alignment with energy industry issues, company messaging and strategic goals.
Act as an official company spokesperson for media inquiries, interviews, and press events. Represent Georgia Power with professionalism and credibility across all media platforms.
Develop and execute proactive media strategies that support corporate initiatives, regulatory milestones, community engagement, and emergency response.
Provide rapid response and guidance during high-impact events, including storms, outages, and other operational disruptions.
Develop and foster relationships with a network of reporters, editors, and journalists covering the company or related topics.
Manage and participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 media coverage and support during urgent company matters, some holidays may be required.
Be available for occasional overnight travel across Georgia to support field operations, press events, nuclear power plant emergency drills, and community outreach efforts.
Work closely with internal departments including but not limited to Governmental & Regulatory Affairs, Customer Service, Environmental Affairs, and Operations to ensure consistent messaging.
Oversee media tracking, coverage reports, sentiment analysis, and reporting to inform leadership and guide strategy.
Ability to translate highly technical issues into consumer friendly language.
Draft press releases, media statements, talking points, and briefing materials for executives and subject matter experts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
10+ years of experience in media relations, public affairs, or corporate communications.
Proven experience managing a team and serving as a spokesperson.
Strong understanding of local and national media landscape, including traditional and digital platforms; agency or energy industry experience a plus.
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Willingness to travel and be available outside normal business hours as needed.
Location: 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA.
Work Schedule: In Office 4 days per week; rotating on-call schedule with weekends and holidays.
