Stansell is seeking a talented Accounting Manager in the Odessa/Tampa region to join our team!
POSITION IS FULLY ONSITE.
Stansell is a rapidly growing, WBE certified, general contractor specializing in commercial construction services across the Southeast United States. We focus on serving clients in the commercial market with emphasis on the following project types: restaurant dining and quick service food. The ideal candidate for this role is a career-minded individual with a customer service focus, has high energy, and is detail oriented. This candidate will have an analytical mind and great organizational skills.
Position Summary: We are seeking a strong Accounting Manager to join our team and lead the day-to-day financial operations of our growing construction company. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all accounting functions while providing essential support to project teams and leadership. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in construction accounting, team leadership, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
Oversee job cost accounting, ensuring accurate coding of costs to projects.
Review and process subcontractor invoices, payment applications, lien waivers, and retention for check runs and payments as needed.
Oversee the preparation of owner billings, including AIA billing formats, progress billings, and change orders, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
Monitor accounts receivable, ensuring timely collections and follow-up.
Support Accounting Partners in collaboration with project managers with budget tracking, cost-to-complete forecasts, and profitability analysis.
Oversee monthly GL reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and professional growth.
Collaborate with the CFO/CRO as needed on various financial analyses, acting as a financial business partner to support decision-making and promote financial discipline on the project level.
Work with CFO to foster and grow the Accounting Partner / Project Manager relationship.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a financial leadership or management role.
3-5+ years of proven experience in construction accounting required with a deep understanding of WIP schedules, job costing, and AIA billing.
CPA and public accounting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
Prior experience leading a team in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment with a track record of developing staff and elevating departmental performance.
Proficiency in accounting and project management software used in the construction industry (e.g. Sage, Procore or similar).
Advanced Excel skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate across project management, operations, and executive teams.
Comfortable balancing high-level strategic work with a willingness to roll up sleeves when necessary.
