Description The MTA Bridges & Tunnels operates the largest bridge and tunnel network in New York City, managing nine crossings that include seven bridges and two tunnels. Serving more than 336 million vehicle crossings each year, this network connects communities across the five boroughs and supports regional mobility. In addition, MTA Bridges & Tunnels oversees the Congestion Relief Zone, working to ensure safe, efficient travel and a more sustainable urban environment.

Responsibilities
Oversee environmental compliance programs across assigned TBTA sites, ensuring alignment with MTA policies and applicable regulations.
Support the implementation of agency-wide environmental initiatives and site-level environmental compliance procedures.
Coordinate with site operations and maintenance teams to integrate environmental requirements into daily activities.
Monitor site activities and contractors to ensure compliance with environmental standards; conduct inspections and support audits.
Coordinate regulatory reporting, including State Agency Environmental Audit (SAEA) submissions and related documentation.
Provide environmental training and guidance to staff and contractors, fostering a culture of compliance and stewardship.
Track environmental performance metrics and prepare reports for leadership review.
Act as a liaison with site leadership, contractors, and regulatory agencies to address compliance issues and support environmental program goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Occupational Health & Safety Management, or a related field.
Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, program administration, or related work.
Experience with environmental audits, regulatory reporting, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, health and safety regulations.
Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Valid Driver License in the State of New York.
Experience coordinating environmental compliance efforts within large, complex facilities or infrastructure systems.
Experience in environmental compliance management systems (EMS), incident reporting systems, and compliance management tools.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and document management software.
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, NYSDEC).
Knowledge of environmental regulations/standards such as RCRA, TSCA, water and air quality regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability with building relationships and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment.
Must possess excellent team building, listening, problem solving, and prioritization skills.
Ability to be on call 24/7 and report to any of MTA Bridges & Tunnels seven bridges and two tunnel locations/facilities as needed.
Preferred
Advanced degree in environmental engineering or a related field.
Significant experience in program management for large government agencies or businesses with highly complex systems.
Familiarity with MTA policies and procedures or New York State environmental regulatory frameworks.
Experience supporting or coordinating environmental compliance on capital construction projects.
Certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), OSHA, or equivalent.
Other Information MTA Bridges and Tunnels is governed by the Civil Service Rules and Regulations administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
