Job Summary The Piping Project Engineer is the technical source of information for the project and should have thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. Maintains professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers. May assist with supervision and/or training of Field Engineers. This position includes three steps (I, II, Senior) indicating progression of skill and experience. Step I is entry level; Step II is for those with 3 years of experience or on larger/more complex projects; Senior is for more than 6 years of experience and/or on significantly larger or more complex projects. Mechanical Process Piping experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Demonstrates understanding of the project management plan components (scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality and safety plans, risk management) and the change management process.

Develops a procurement schedule and integrates it with the project CPM schedule. Procures material and equipment. Coordinates submittals with other trades. Reviews all submittals for contract document compliance.

Understands the prime contract, subcontracts, purchase orders, and allowances. Administers budgeting and cost control processes to meet budget. Demonstrates business acumen within area of responsibility.

Maintains "As-built" contract documents and compiles close-out requirements (operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other items).

May participate in concrete form design, equipment selection and takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities as required.

Plans, acquires, develops and supervises project team members to ensure relentless execution.

Prepares quantity reporting mechanisms, coordinates agendas and minutes, and maintains project logs.

Prepares and reviews change orders, including time extensions, with the appropriate personnel before submittal to the owner; maintains the change order log and distributes documents as required to field personnel. Prepares cost control budget adjustments and executes timely.

Prevents and identifies potential claims, quantifies, and mitigates/resolves effects in a timely manner.

Minimum Job Requirements

Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and an understanding of interdependencies between functional units.

Four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical training and 3–4 years of similar construction engineering experience.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to manage a multidisciplinary team. Ability to supervise/train Field Engineer positions if required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to wear personal protective equipment (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.).

May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.

May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.

May use telephone, computer systems, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate.

Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.

Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.

Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently.

Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day.

Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis.

Will sit, stand or walk short distances for the duration of a shift/work day.
