Senior Mortgage Underwriter
to join our team. This role involves assessing borrowers' financial positions to evaluate credit risk, managing loan applications to meet service level agreements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and bank standards. The Senior Mortgage Underwriter will collaborate with internal teams, maintain certifications, and provide exceptional service while demonstrating expertise in agency products, income analysis, and mentoring peers.
Essential Functions
Analyzes current financial position of borrowers to determine risk and makes decisions to approve, deny, or forward the loan request.
Monitors work queue to ensure loan applications are reviewed and underwritten within the required time period and meet the SLA’s set for each loan product type.
Collaborates with Sales, Operations, and Closing to provide exceptional internal and external customer service.
Has detailed understanding of Agency products FNMA/FHLMC/FHA/VA/USDA.
Performs credit and collateral underwriting of FHA, VA, Conventional, VA SAR, CDA, USDA and Portfolio mortgage loans with a high degree of attention to detail.
Conducts income analysis, including reviewing self‑employment income for Schedule C, 1065, 1120 and/or 1120S borrowers.
Mentors peers in skill development.
Maintains a working knowledge of bank mortgage loan standards, policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal rules.
Underwrites all residential mortgage loans with compliance of Regulation Z‑ATR and QM requirements.
Maintains certifications in FHA, VA, and USDA underwriting.
Abides by laws and organizational policies to promote a harassment‑free and non‑discriminatory workplace.
Supports risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank’s compliance with all regulatory requirements (CRA, BSA, ECA, SAFE Act, etc.).
Participates in required training sessions, including compliance with BSA/AML policies and procedures.

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma/GED equivalent
Minimum of five years’ experience underwriting mortgage loans
Knowledge of AUS, DU and GUS
Currently have LAPP and DE certifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in residential mortgage underwriting/credit (preferred)
Excellent working knowledge of consumer and mortgage regulatory requirements (BSA, Reg B‑ECOA, Reg C‑HMDA, Dodd‑Frank, Reg X‑RESPA, Reg Z‑TILA, SCRA, UDAAP)
Mortgage Credit regulatory knowledge and training
Compensation
Pay range: $45.00 to $57.50 hourly
Actual compensation may vary based on relevant experience, time in role, internal peer comparison, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements, and skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
