The Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) partners with clinical, operational, and technology leaders to shape AI and digital innovation. The CMIO guides transformation, ensuring technology supports and elevates JHM’s mission of improving health and advancing discovery.
Reporting Relationships
Dual report to the Dean/CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine with a dotted line to the Enterprise Chief Information Officer
Direct report: Associate CMIO for JHM; each hospital and Johns Hopkins Community Physicians have their own CMIO reporting indirectly to the JHM CMIO
Leadership position in the AI and Data Trust Council
Regular network with all key physician leaders across JHM
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical informatics strategy aligned with the health system’s mission
Lead evaluation, selection, and implementation of new health IT solutions, focusing on AI-powered technologies
Collaborate with clinicians, IT staff, administrators, and researchers to foster a culture of innovation and data‑driven decision‑making
Oversee the development and implementation of AI governance frameworks and policies to ensure responsible and ethical AI use
Maintain expertise in emerging trends and best practices in medical informatics and healthcare technology
Partner with IT leadership to manage change, enable organizational transformation, and support clinician productivity
Drive optimization of clinical systems and seamless integration of new technologies to enhance delivery of clinical care
Prioritize investments and guide change management efforts across JHM’s multi‑site organization
Champion the use of AI in a manner that complements and enhances human expertise, balancing technological advancements with the human touch in patient care
Candidate Qualifications Education/Certification
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
Board certification in a medical specialty
Knowledge and Work Experience
Minimum 6 years of clinical experience in an academic medical health system setting
Minimum 4 years of leadership experience related to clinical informatics
Demonstrated expertise in implementation and use of Epic EHR systems
Strong understanding of AI and its applications in healthcare, including emerging agentic AI capabilities
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Experience developing and implementing AI governance frameworks in a healthcare setting
Knowledge of ethical considerations and potential biases associated with AI in healthcare
Understanding of various AI approaches (machine learning, deep learning, NLP) and their applications in healthcare
Ability to assess and mitigate risks associated with AI deployment
