Job Title Application Support Engineer – Capital Markets (Trading Systems / FIX Protocol)
Location Chicago, IL (Onsite – 5 days a week)

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer for a client of ours, with a strong background in Investment Banking (IB) and electronic trading systems. The ideal candidate will support multiple trading platform initiatives within a high-performance, fast-paced financial environment. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in front-office support, understands FIX connectivity, and can ensure seamless system performance for business‑critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Provide hands‑on production support for trading and order management systems, including FIX connectivity and broker/client onboarding.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve real‑time issues in trading environments across multiple asset classes.
Collaborate closely with development, QA, and infrastructure teams to ensure system stability and performance.
Manage message flows and integration points between internal and external systems using RabbitMQ and similar messaging technologies.
Perform root‑cause analysis for incidents, maintain detailed documentation, and implement preventative measures.
Work with SQL databases for data validation, log analysis, and issue diagnosis.
Participate in on‑call rotation and incident response for production systems.
Drive automation and process improvements across existing workflows to optimize performance and uptime.
Required Skills & Experience
5–7 years of experience in Application Support / Production Support within an Investment Banking or Capital Markets environment.
Strong experience with FIX Protocol (message structure, connectivity, and troubleshooting).
Proficiency in SQL for querying, validation, and debugging issues.
Experience with RabbitMQ or other enterprise messaging systems.
Solid understanding of trading platforms, order routing, and post‑trade processes.
Exposure to DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines preferred.
Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work onsite and collaborate with cross‑functional teams in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Background
Prior experience supporting trading desks or electronic trading platforms.
Knowledge of Linux/Unix, scripting languages (Python, Shell), and monitoring tools (ELK, AppDynamics, etc.).
Familiarity with Fidessa, Bloomberg, or other market connectivity systems a plus.
