Summary The Senior Project Manager will lead the planning, design, and execution of high-voltage substations, utility‑scale photovoltaic (PV) solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The role demands technical expertise, project management proficiency, and a commitment to industry safety standards and regulatory compliance. The manager will serve as the primary liaison for all project stakeholders, mentor team members, foster continuous learning, and proactively manage project risks.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, and execution of utility‑scale solar and energy storage projects, ensuring precision and adherence to industry standards.
Manage construction projects of solar and energy storage sites of 150 MW or more, understanding critical equipment such as power inverters, battery racks, and BMS systems.
Oversee E&C team activities for preconstruction, construction, startup, and commissioning phases, including scope of work, estimates, engineering design, permitting, and milestone advancement.
Act as the primary liaison for all project stakeholders, maintaining transparent communication, leading project meetings, and providing technical explanations.
Prioritize resources and make decisions based on project, financial, and milestone objectives.
Proactively manage project‑related risks, ensuring the highest safety and regulatory compliance levels throughout the lifecycle.
Foster a culture of continuous learning within the team, identifying professional development opportunities and mentoring team members.
Manage subcontractors and equipment supplier obligations, working closely with Procurement on contract negotiations, deliverables, schedules, change orders, and dispute resolution.
Coordinate detailed engineering project design reviews focused on voltage‑specific and equipment‑related aspects, ensuring compliance with all standards and regulations.
Demonstrate proficiency in strategic contract and financial management for sourcing, contract negotiations, and budget management.
Collaborate with safety, QA/QC, and environmental teams to integrate their goals and requirements, promoting continuous improvement across functions.
Enforce safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
Manage QA/QC requirements rigorously to ensure the highest standards of work quality on all projects.
Coordinate activities, schedules, material procurement, project logistics, and temporary facility plans with the project manager and field staff.
Review and approve materials/equipment for Electrical/Mechanical/Structural systems.
Assist in developing estimates for substations, transmission lines, PV, and BESS projects.
Prepare cost reports indicating estimated costs, revenues, and project timelines.
Adhere to the company’s attendance policy as an essential job duty requirement.
Undertake other duties and special projects assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; MBA preferred; minimum of 8 years of experience.
Minimum of 15 years of experience managing high‑voltage substations, PV, BESS projects, or similarly complex capital projects; at least 5 years of PV or BESS project experience preferred.
Relevant industry certifications or licenses such as PMP or Professional Engineer (PE) license are highly desirable.
Proven track record of overseeing multi‑million dollar projects.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor diverse project teams and manage international programs.
Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
Mastery of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, ProCore) and engineering tools (AutoCAD, Estimation Software).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an assertive, adaptable, and team‑player mindset.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
