Transmission Planning & Studies Engineer – Senior Level
Join POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, for this senior‑level Transmission Planning Engineer role. The position is posted in multiple POWER office locations and offers the flexibility to work remotely full‑time from a mutually acceptable location. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings.
Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the design, execution, and delivery of network studies for utilities and ISOs, including feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, transient & dynamic stability, long‑ and short‑range planning studies, short‑circuit analysis, load flow, and interconnection model development.
Interface with other engineers to prepare computer‑based models and perform power system studies on utility transmission & distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
Participate in proposal writing processes and engage with customers to develop new opportunities for POWER.
Self‑manage time, communicate complex technical issues to decision‑makers, and mentor project teams.
Required Education and Experience
BSEE
10+ years of experience in transmission planning system studies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write proposals, reports, and technical communications
Minimum 6 years of experience with PSS/E
PE registration (or equivalent)
Experience leading projects and mentoring others
Familiarity with ERCOT, its interconnection processes, and system impact study requirements
Willingness to travel up to 10%
Ability to work successfully in a customer‑focused, project‑oriented environment
Desired Education and Experience
MSEE or PhD
10+ years of experience with PSS/E
Familiarity with additional RTOs regarding interconnection process and system impact studies
Additional desirable software: PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, Power World, and others as applicable
Automation development and coding experience
Compensation Base Salary Range: $119k – $237k per year. Salaries are set based on a number of factors including an individual’s job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The range displayed complies with all state and local regulations.
