About the Role A leading public accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Senior Manager to join its Energy & Natural Resources practice in Houston. This is a key leadership role for a professional with deep technical knowledge of upstream oil and gas taxation, partnership structures, and energy-related transactions.
Responsibilities
Lead and review federal and state tax compliance and consulting engagements for upstream oil and gas clients.
Advise on partnership structures, joint ventures, and entity formations common in the energy sector.
Provide guidance on issues such as intangible drilling costs (IDCs), depletion, production taxes, and revenue recognition.
Manage and mentor a team of professionals, ensuring technical accuracy, quality control, and client satisfaction.
Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
Monitor tax law changes impacting the energy industry and communicate implications to clients.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s in Taxation or JD/LL.M. preferred.
CPA license required.
8+ years of progressive tax experience, with a strong focus on the oil and gas upstream sector.
Deep understanding of partnership taxation, energy-specific deductions, and federal/state compliance requirements.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements and mentor staff.
