The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tribal organization serving 43 federally recognized tribes in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Our mission is to eliminate health disparities and improve the quality of life for American Indians and Alaska Natives by supporting Northwest Tribes in delivering culturally appropriate, high‑quality health programs and services. The Senior Accountant is responsible for monitoring all NPAIHB balance sheet accounts, ensuring internal controls, accounting tasks, and general ledger accuracy related to expenditures and reporting functions. The position collaborates closely with the AP & Payroll Manager, Fund Accounting Supervisor, and Controller to maintain and administer the Board’s financial systems. Essential Functions
Responsible for Accounting General Ledger Functions Reconcile bank Statements monthly Assist with the reconciliation of outstanding bank account items Prepare month‑end journal entries as assigned Prepare or review entries to record payroll and related journal entries Reconcile balance sheet accounts as assigned Reconcile the 941 to the payroll reports and trial balance on a quarterly basis Develop reports to increase efficiencies within the accounting department Monitor allowable costs and correct allocations to cost centers Assist with accounting for NPAIHB’s grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts Assist with correspondence to PD's and other staff with open PO reports Reconciliation of contract payments and contract summary reports as needed Work with Accounts Payable Specialist and Grant Fund Manager as necessary to review coding of Accounts Payable and Payroll, assuring allowability of costs and correct allocation to cost centers Monitors contract payments through system reports and random testing of payments Back up purchasing in entering and recording payment requests Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Reconciliation of travel reports as needed Assist in coordination of internal and external audits Collaborate with Controller and Grant Fund Manager in Monthly and Year‑end closings Support Finance team and staff as needed Standards Of Conduct

With the approval of supervisor, attend trainings as needed to improve skills that enhance overall capabilities related to job performance to benefit NPAIHB. Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field or equivalent experience Experience
Five or more years of GL accounting experience Five or more years of experience with advanced accounting software applications is required – Sage Intacct preferred Additional Experience Preferred
Proficiency with Sage Intacct system Experience working with federal, state and private grants, cooperative agreements and contracts. Experience with G/L reconciliation Direct experience working with Northwest Tribes Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge, discretion, tact, judgment, and overall ability in working effectively with Tribal, federal and state representatives. Proficiency with computer applications (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office Suite programs) Excellent analytical skills Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent writing and grammar skills Must be sensitive to cross‑cultural differences, and able to work effectively within their context Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions and recommendations Ability to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner Must be able to travel, as requested. Physical Demands
Frequently involves sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Constantly requires the ability to receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in sound. Constantly requires verbally expressing or exchanging ideas or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly. Constantly requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm.
