Job Summary and Qualifications Position Summary The HCA Healthcare Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Enterprise Practice Operations is a key member of the Clinical Services Group executive team. The CMO will report to the President of Practice Operations and will participate with the Practice Operations executive team in defining and driving the overall business, clinical and physician strategy of the organization. The position provides strategic direction and management for provider quality initiatives and outcomes, payer initiative programs, government program compliance, practice-based clinical informatics and physician and executive relationship building in the ambulatory physician services line of business, including all physicians and advanced practice providers across practice locations nationally.
The CMO will supervise a team of highly qualified professionals, who are subject matter experts in the areas of quality, clinical informatics, pharmacy, clinical supply chain, care coordination and payer initiatives. The CMO will provide guidance, support, and coaching and help remove barriers to success in these areas. The CMO's direct reports are the VP of Ambulatory Clinical Quality, and the AVP of Ambulatory Pharmacy and Clinical Supply Chain. These teams ensure the provision of exceptionally effective risk management functions, environment of care management and ensuring clinics the support and services needed to meet clinical care, operational and financial objectives.
Success in this position is measured by implementation and optimization of clinical workflows (including with regard to health information systems), continuous improvement in quality metrics and outcomes, physician oversight of delegated credentialing and collaborative and productive relationships with all HCA lines of business and executives including but not limited to ITG, Digital Transformation and Innovation, Payer Contracting and Analytics, hospital division and group operations, service-lines, and all CSG executives.
The CMO will serve as key clinical leader on all matters of provider quality, advising Practice Operations, CSG, and company leadership on patient safety and provider performance. Additionally, the position will provide specialized focus to identify and develop an appropriate physician leadership network with strategic communication to move the clinical agenda forward and gain trust and collaboration from employed physicians across HCA Healthcare, partially measured through provider engagement results.
Major Responsibilities
Lead and guide the teams to achieve strategic and tactical goals in informatics, data, quality, risk, regulatory, value-based care and health data creation and aggregation
Provides direct leadership and day to day management of the Implementations and Optimization teams within Physician Services.
Drives increased physician use of information and tools to support integrated care delivery.
Leads the evaluation of products and services having major clinical impact including the selection and implementation of all clinical applications and products
Aligns the HIT strategy with Physician Services' operational goals and constraints through strategic partnerships with operations and finance
Demonstrates and articulates a thorough understanding of the social, political, and economic influences affecting health care programs and services, and develops and drives strategies based on these influences.
Coordinates with and participates in HCA Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety leadership to align resources and provide input in establishing priorities.
Supports the mission, vision, and values of CSG and HCA Healthcare and demonstrates a passion for quality and excellent customer service at all times.
Serves as a physician consultant for operational issues related to informatics, data, quality, provider outcomes, delegated credentialing and new medical technologies related to Physician Services managed infrastructure
Provide guidance and assistance to the Physician Services lines of business to include (but not limited to) Urgent Care, IRL, Graduate Medical Education while providing HCA Corporate guidance concerning HIT, quality and risk in the ambulatory space.
Supports the mission, vision, and values of CSG and demonstrates a passion for quality and excellent customer service at all times
Demonstrates adherence to the HCA Healthcare Code of Conduct, mission, and values at all times - internally and externally.
Other duties as assigned. Some moderate travel expectations as indicated by business needs.
Education & Experience
Doctoral Degree in Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine; active, unrestricted medical license Required
Minimum of five years' experience as a large system, multi-site Chief Medical Officer or other similar Clinical Leadership position within a progressive, complex healthcare system with extensive ambulatory setting management. Required
Formal management experience over Quality, Risk, Safety, Supply Chain and Clinical Informatics in a large health system desired Preferred
Minimum of 10 years clinical experience with direct patient care . Required
Minimum 5 years management experience with a focus in leading clinical and non-clinical teams focusing on projects which involve budgetary, clinical and government regulation constraints. Required
Exemplary medical practice history as attested by peers and affirmed by review of professional liability and NPDB history; minimum of ten years clinical practice. Required
Leadership Acumen. The ability to inspire individuals, teams and the organization. Preferred
