Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts, Stanford Law School Stanford Law School, one of the top‑rated law schools worldwide, is hiring an Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts. The role reports to the Director of Major Gifts and is a senior member of the Office of External Relations. The Associate Director will manage regional fundraising efforts, identify, cultivate, and solicit individuals capable of giving $250,000 or more. A remote worker arrangement may be considered.

Job Purpose In coordination with the Director of Major Gifts, plan and implement fundraising strategies for a portfolio of high‑value donors. Operate independently in assigned areas, taking responsibility for prospect identification, solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities.

Core Duties

Develop solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for major gift development projects and specific donor populations or geographic regions.

Manage an active portfolio, tracking solicitation assignments and progress. Cultivate, solicit, and steward donor support in regions assigned. Expect to travel 50% of the time with 12‑15 visits per month.

Oversee major gift cultivation and solicitation events within assigned regions.

Maintain an active level of contacts, identify new prospective donors and volunteers, provide stewardship, and coordinate volunteer fundraising efforts.

Stay informed on current university and law school initiatives and activities.

Serve as expert partner between faculty‑led programs and the Office of External Relations.

Coordinate dean and faculty visits with potential funders, both on campus and in regions, preparing briefings, developing cultivation strategy, and following up after meetings.

Establish and enhance ongoing relationships with alumni and friends through personal visits, phone calls, and meaningful contacts.

Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, assign volunteers, and follow up to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.

Work closely with other development colleagues to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university’s development organization.

Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience. Valid California Non‑commercial Class Driver’s License.

Qualifications

Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.

Experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.

Superior written and oral communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support.

Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.

Certifications and Licenses Valid California Non‑commercial Class Driver’s License.

Work Conditions

Flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Regular travel required.

Pay Hybrid: $142,600 – $163,419 per annum. Remote: $107,388 – $144,140 per annum.
