Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems – Principal Engineer Guidance, Navigation, & Control Location: San Diego, El Segundo, or Palmdale, CA. Design, develop, implement, verify, and test Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms and simulation tools for aircraft.

Responsibilities

Design control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities, and stability margin requirements.

Develop linear and nonlinear dynamic simulation models and integrate into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments.

Analyze flight test data and support flight test activities.

Basic Qualifications – Principal Engineer

Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience.

Excellent communication, analysis and problem‑solving skills.

Knowledge of fixed‑wing aircraft flight dynamics.

Experience using linear control principles and tools to design feedback control systems.

Experience analyzing nonlinear simulations of aircraft closed‑loop dynamics.

Experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data.

Active or in‑scope DoD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications – Senior Principal Engineer

Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 3 years of experience.

Excellent communication, analysis and problem‑solving skills.

Knowledge of fixed‑wing aircraft flight dynamics.

Experience using linear control principles and tools to design feedback control systems.

Experience analyzing nonlinear simulations of aircraft closed‑loop dynamics.

Experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data.

Active or in‑scope DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink.

Experience designing control laws for fixed‑wing aircraft and performing handling qualities analysis.

Working knowledge of MIL‑STD‑1797 flying qualities requirements.

Active or in‑scope DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Compensation Primary Level Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,500. Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,400 - $206,000.
