Overview
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of residential and lodging properties. This role ensures accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance analyses, while maintaining compliance with company policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
Responsibilities
Financial Statement Preparation, Review, and Analysis:
Prepare and review monthly balance sheets and profit/loss accounts, reconcile control accounts, and create adjusting journal entries at month end.
Financial Analysis/Forecasting/Budgeting:
Reconcile year‑end work papers for tax returns and audits; participate in forecasting, budgeting, and operational forecast maintenance; complete special ad hoc projects as assigned.
Business Support:
Work closely with business partners to ensure compliance with accounting/finance SOPs and serve as a liaison from an accounting standpoint.
Compliance:
Adhere to GAAP in all journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
Continuous Improvement:
Evaluate controls and procedures for efficiency improvements and recommend changes to management.
Customer Service:
Maintain relationships with corporate, field, and accounting teams; communicate clearly and represent the company professionally in all interactions.
Self/Workload Management:
Demonstrate effective multitasking, meeting strict deadlines, and promoting a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
Minimum 1‑3 years of accounting experience handling complex issues and problems.
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
Preferred experience with Yardi accounting software or TM1.
Some hospitality, retail, or real‑estate industry experience is advantageous but not required.
Compensation & Benefits Rate: $65,000 – $75,000 per year.
