UMHD has the exclusive right to develop, purchase, and own UMusic Hotels and Venues in the United States, Canada, and St. Barts. Position Summary The Senior Construction Accountant will be our first dedicated construction accounting hire, responsible for the entire project accounting function — from daily invoice coding and pay application review to preparing construction loan draw packages, cash flow forecasts, and consolidated reporting.
This is a full‑scope role suited for a self‑starter who thrives in a startup environment, is comfortable building accounting processes from the ground up, and wants to grow into a leadership position as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
Process subcontractor/vendor invoices, code costs to projects, and manage AP workflows.
Review and track lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and contract compliance.
Maintain accurate job cost records including change orders, commitments, and contingency.
Prepare and review subcontractor pay applications.
Draws, Reporting & Compliance
Prepare monthly construction loan draw packages for lenders.
Support project managers with budget‑to‑actual reporting, forecasts, and cost‑to‑complete analysis.
Monitor cash flow needs and coordinate with finance/treasury for funding.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company capitalization policies, and loan covenants.
Controls & Process Development
Establish standardized project accounting procedures and templates.
Partner with development/project management teams to improve reporting and forecasting.
Assist in ERP/software setup and help streamline integrations (Sage Intacct, Procore, or equivalent).
Support annual audit and tax preparation.
Qualifications
4 years minimum of progressive construction/development accounting experience. MUST have experience in construction accounting.
Strong understanding of job cost accounting, construction contracts (lump sum, GMP, cost‑plus), and financing structures.
Hands‑on experience preparing and submitting lender draw packages.
Advanced Excel skills; experience with Sage Intacct or Procore a plus.
Excellent critical reasoning, quantitative, and analytical skills.
Meticulous attention to detail and high level of accuracy, highly organized, able to multi‑task, and is self‑motivated.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
Startup mentality — comfortable wearing multiple hats, rolling up sleeves, and helping build processes from scratch.
AI experience preferred.
