Job Description Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work for this role. They are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
Serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering the facilities; responsible for all aspects of customer service for Patient Access/Patient Administrative Services with a customer-focused, quality-conscious approach.
Focuses on interpersonal skills, data collection, situation assessment, and assisting the team in developing solutions to achieve excellence in customer service while ensuring the financial viability of the hospital.
Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics; verifies insurance benefits and coverage by reviewing benefits in Epic; provides cost estimates, secures pre-certifications/pre-notifications, collects co-pays and deposits prior to services, and offers financial assistance information to patients.
Provides wayfinding to all clinics served by Patient Administrative Services; staff must be aware of clinic locations to navigate patients to appointments.
Maintains regulatory and functional knowledge of registration information to ensure timely and accurate reporting/billing; obtains required signatures and performs clerical duties as necessary.
Educates patients regarding adequate insurance coverage and communicates hospital/physician billing requirements and procedures to patients.
Communicates coverage issues to service areas; works with patients and staff to resolve.
Ensures accuracy and completion of paperwork prior to filing admissions; contacts physician/clinical staff for incomplete registration paperwork and distributes admission documents if required.
Maintains department scheduling templates for applicable providers in outpatient locations; ensures appropriate scheduling utilization.
Maintains regular contact with the Care Management and Social Work departments to obtain required information for reimbursement and ensure pre-admission and pre-certification requirements are followed.
Assists supervisor with training of new Admitting staff by demonstrating department operating processes and procedures.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or GED required.
Certification and memberships to local organizations such as AAHAM, NAHAM, etc. preferred.
1 year of work experience in a clerical, customer service or receptionist position, preferably in a healthcare setting; 2 years’ experience preferred.
