Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this role and are not an exhaustive list of duties. Serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors entering the facilities; responsible for all aspects of customer service for Patient Access/Patient Administrative Services to ensure a customer-focused, quality-conscious environment. Focuses on interpersonal skills, data collection, situational assessment, and assisting the team to develop solutions to achieve excellence in customer service while ensuring financial viability of the hospital. Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics; verifies insurance benefits and coverage, provides cost estimates, secures pre-certifications for patient services, collects co-pays/deposits, and provides financial assistance as needed. Provides wayfinding to clinics served by Patient Administrative Services; staff must be familiar with clinic locations to guide patients to appointments. Maintains regulatory and functional knowledge of required registration information to ensure timely and accurate reporting/billing; obtains required signatures and performs clerical duties as necessary. Educates patients regarding adequate insurance coverage; communicates hospital and physician billing requirements and procedures to patients. Communicates coverage issues to service areas; collaborates with patients and staff to resolve them. Ensures accuracy and completion of paperwork prior to filing admissions; communicates with physician/clinical staff to resolve incomplete paperwork; distributes admission documents as required. Maintains department scheduling templates for applicable providers in outpatient locations and ensures appropriate scheduling utilization. Maintains ongoing contact with Care Management and Social Work to obtain required information for reimbursement and to follow pre-admission/pre-certification requirements. Assists supervisor with training of new Admitting staff by demonstrating department processes and procedures. Qualifications Completion of high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Certification and memberships to local organizations such as AAHAM, NAHAM, etc. preferred. 1 year of work experience in a clerical, customer service, or receptionist role; healthcare setting experience preferred. 2 years’ experience preferred.
