Install, maintain, and repair residential plumbing systems (fixtures, valves, water heaters, traps, waste and vent lines). Clear drain lines and perform pipe threading and soldering tasks. Maintain and repair natural gas furnaces and hydronic heating systems. Perform routine and emergency electrical repairs (lighting, switches, receptacles, breakers). Repair domestic appliances and HVAC components. Maintain and repair windows, doors, locks, thresholds, and cabinetry hardware. Repair and maintain patios, decks, walkways, and sliding doors. Perform minor roofing repairs and clean gutters using ladders and fall protection equipment. Install blinds, signage, fire extinguishers, and small fixtures. Assist carpenters and painters with prep work (demo, masking, caulking, etc.). Conduct preventative maintenance and respond to alarms and work orders (via radio, MAXIMO, or dispatcher). Provide excellent customer service to residents and staff in a professional, courteous manner. Safeguard tools, equipment, and workspaces; follow all university, state, and federal safety protocols. Ability to lift 50 lbs and carry ladders across long distances. Proficient in using handheld technology and computerized work management systems (MAXIMO). Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality service. Qualifications
Demonstrate strong customer service by presenting a professional appearance and effectively communicate with faculty, staff and students in a helpful and respectful manner. Ability to safely lift, carry, move, push and pull 50 lbs. Proficient in using computers, handheld devices, email, and work order systems (e.g., MAXIMO). Strong technical knowledge of building maintenance, including pipe sizing, soldering, and lighting systems. Skilled in using hand and power tools common to building trades. Ability to read and interpret manuals, drawings, and technical documents. Experience maintaining and repairing residential systems: plumbing, electrical, gas heaters, hydronic heating, and appliances. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse community. Physically able to perform manual tasks, including lifting, climbing, and operating equipment. Adaptable and dependable with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Works well independently or as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with residential electrical systems (switches, breakers, receptacles). Knowledge of safety practices and applicable regulations. Familiarity with UC San Diego systems, procedures, and campus layout. Ability to manage materials inventory and use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and amp probes. Background in building maintenance in a university or similar setting. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by the University's needs. Special Conditions

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $52,910 - $68,424 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $25.34 - $32.77 The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
