Summary
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Perioperative Scheduler coordinates scheduling patients for surgery. Acts as liaison between patient, department staff and Rush University Medical Center OR staff teams. Performs a number of support services to ensure scheduling efficiency and accuracy. Abides by Rush policies and procedures and exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities
Schedules, reschedules, or cancels surgical appointments. Communicates with surgical candidates to set up appointments, provide pre-operative requirements, inform timelines, and answer insurance-related questions. Coordinates surgical scheduling information flow into and out of the clinic. Maintains direct communication with key OR staff. Contacts outside agencies to retrieve insurance preauthorization and other medical documentation as needed. Maintains open communication with scheduled patients and medical staff to avoid missing information for procedures. Solves scheduling problems by coordinating with the appropriate people and resources. Answers telephone calls efficiently and courteously; provides information or routes calls as appropriate. Updates the electronic medical record as required. Works as part of the surgical scheduling team and accepts other duties as requested. Handles office details such as mail, preparation of surgical documents, filing, faxes, and duplicating forms. Exemplifies professionalism in communications with staff, physicians, and visitors. Performs duties to assist medical staff independently at management direction. Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma. Manual dexterity, effective communication, precision, and accuracy. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Epic software knowledge is an advantage. Ability to communicate well with patients and all levels of staff. Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Works well independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant experience. Three years of medical office experience. Experience obtaining prior authorizations and knowledge of insurance authorization processes. Other information: Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Rush University Medical Center.
