Overview
At General Motors (GM), the
Error Proofing Platform (EPP)
is a sophisticated system designed to prevent manufacturing defects and ensure high-quality production through automation and real-time monitoring.
EPP
is GM’s standardized system for error detection and prevention across its assembly lines. It evolved from earlier systems like
GEP
and
SEP
(Scalable Error Proofing), and is now integrated into GM’s
Global Common Controls Software (GCCS-2)
framework. EPP combines hardware, software, and configuration tools to monitor and control production tasks at the
Track Zone
and
Footprint
levels.
SEP/EPP Server : Runs SQL Server, Rockwell RSLinx, and GE Fanuc CIMPLICITY HMI software.
Cell Controllers : Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 PLCs manage local automation tasks.
Operator Interfaces (OIs) : Include light stacks, I/O modules, and bypass/release keys for manual overrides.
Runtime UI : Allows engineers to monitor, simulate, and validate production tasks in real time. How It Works: Engineers configure tasks using templates and logic flows. The system uses
triggers
(single or complex) to initiate error checks. It supports
Main, Backup, and Alternate Tools
to ensure redundancy. Ethernet I/O mapping
and
IO-Link architecture
connect sensors and devices for real-time feedback. Responsibilites
Provide and maintain the EPP environment configuration, including templates and logic flows for task execution. Monitor, simulate, and validate production tasks in real time using the Runtime UI. Manage hardware/software interfaces (Track Zone, Footprint, sensors, PLCs, HMIs) and ensure robust error detection and prevention across assembly lines. Senioriy and Employment Type
