Snap Inc., Los Angeles, California, United States, 90079
Overview
Electrical Engineer, System Power Architect, Spectacles, L5 — Snap Inc. Spectacles is home to our hardware products with a world-class R&D team focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life. Working from hardware design centers in Palo Alto or Santa Monica, CA, you’ll join the Snap Lab Hardware Engineering group responsible for the system power model and delivering first-in-class consumer electronics hardware. What you’ll do
Power Model Ownership: Develop, maintain, and continuously improve a system-level power model that predicts power consumption of hardware components and software activities across operational states and use cases. Load Characterization: Model power consumption for system loads including SoCs, CPUs, GPUs, memory, displays, wireless radios, sensors, actuators, and peripherals across functional modes. Battery Modeling: Integrate battery model (ESR) into runtime estimates and HW system DCR and grounding requirements. Use Case Analysis: Collaborate with product and system architecture teams to define and model use cases and translate into quantifiable power profiles. Early Power Estimation: Extract and integrate pre-silicon power estimates and power breakdown data for chips under development to inform architecture choices. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with submodule teams (silicon design, software, firmware, display, camera, wireless, audio, thermal) to gather power data, understand budgets, and identify optimization opportunities. Benchmarking & Validation: Measure power and performance on prototypes, compare to model predictions, debug discrepancies, and refine models for accuracy. Power Optimization Guidance: Provide data-driven recommendations for power reduction strategies and design optimizations. Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for power models, methodologies, test procedures, and analysis reports. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of system architecture and subsystem metrics affecting performance for SoCs, camera, connectivity, cellular, PMICs, and Battery. Knowledge of power management concepts and power delivery. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Minimum Qualifications
BS/BA in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. 7+ years of relevant electrical or hardware engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications
MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field. Experience developing and shipping consumer electronics at scale. Experience with IC design such as VHDL or analog design. Knowledge of layout strategies to meet Power Delivery Network impedance targets or deriving power impedance masks. Excellent process development and documentation skills. Compensation and Pay
Base pay range information varies by zone. Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $190,000-$284,000 annually. Zone B: $181,000-$270,000 annually. Zone C: $162,000-$241,000 annually. The starting pay is determined based on skills, experience, location, and market conditions and may be negotiable within the range. Equity in the form of RSUs may be offered. Other Details
Seniority level: Mid-Senior level. Employment type: Full-time. Job function: Engineering and Information Technology. Industries: Software Development. Benefits and Equal Opportunity
